Blood pressure average calculator

Type or paste your readings, one per line, for example 128/82 or 128/82 68 with your pulse. The average updates as you type.

Average of 0 readings – mmHg

How the average is calculated

The top numbers (systolic) and the bottom numbers (diastolic) are averaged separately: add them up and divide by the number of readings, then round to the nearest whole number. Pulse, if you include it, is averaged the same way over the readings that have one.

For a step-by-step explanation with a worked example, see how to average your blood pressure readings.

Which readings to include

Include every reading from the period your doctor asked about, both readings of each pair, morning and evening. The American Medical Association suggests 7 days and at least 12 readings before decisions are made.

Questions

How do you average blood pressure readings?

Add up all the top numbers and divide by the number of readings; then do the same for the bottom numbers separately. For example, 132/84, 128/82 and 126/80 average to 129/82.

How many readings should I average?

The AMA suggests 7 days of morning and evening readings, two each time, and at least 12 readings over 3 days.

Can I paste readings from my monitor's app?

Yes, if they are in a form like 128/82. The calculator picks out every reading it finds, one per line, with an optional pulse after it.

Should I leave out unusual readings?

Not on your own. Include every reading, and ask your doctor about any you think were a mistake.

Is anything I type sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser.
